Wednesday began with a double period of our M.E. Writing project and finishing up our art project from yesterday.
Right after recess we had a fire drill. The students in the school had their best fire drill of the year both in terms of how quickly and quietly they were able to leave the building. Perhaps it has something to do with the Saanich emergency training we had yesterday. After the fire drill the students went to music with Mrs. Awalt.
After Music we took a break from division and worked on our fraction unit. Today we focused on making fractions into simplest form. 4/12 = 1/3 or 3/15 = 1/5 etc. Many students did not get the concept. It will take a few days of practice to understand why we put fractions into lowest form and understand how to approach the problem. Part of the problem for some students is that they are not good at basic times table facts.
We started the afternoon finishing our class vote then at 1:00 pm we went to the Gym for a special Drama presentation by the Victoria based Story theater on giving and volunteering our time and resources to help others.
After the presentation we had 30 min and worked on an art project.
