October Lunch Program

We began the day with the students working on activities with their spelling words.  There is no formal pretest, rather the students are given the words, they do exercises with them, take them home to study, (or copy them off the blog) to familiarize themselves with them and study for Friday formal Spelling  test.

After recess the students finished one of their ME (morning exercise) writing assignment,: If I were an animal, and began designing a mask of the animal.  This was more complicated for this group than I had expected.  But mostly it was my fault as it was hard work to start from scratch and make a mask.  That said many students got an excellent start and with little guidance got working fast, others started and finished and did an amazing job, others did not achieve much but now that a few of the students know how to craft the masks they can help the others.

After Lunch we had a quiet work period as some of the class went to choir.  After choir, we went to the first recognition assembly of the year.  The students in Even divisions were recognized, we are next month.  After the assembly we went back to class, did a major clean-up and ended the day with a game of Simon-Says outside.  See you all tomorrow.  Study your spelling and eat a good breakfast so you are ready to work and think, and play a little.

take care Mr. W

The Second Week

Self portraits and projects on display in the hall

We had a great week.  As the students, Ms Kushnir and myself get to know each other and learn about each others ability and expectations there has been some give and take.  This week we have been doing testing and reviewing to see where the students are.   As well the students are beginning to get an idea of the work expected.

This week we did several projects to see what the students remember from grade 3 about doing a project.  By Friday the students were shown and doing a project how we expect the projects to be done in grade 4.  Below are students working at various levels and some sample projects.

As well on Friday we opened the student bank.  Ask your child about it.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Welcome to the New Year

Keep those permission forms coming in so we can use your child's picture and work on the blog.  In elementary school we do not use your child's name only their first Initial.  As the students get used to the increased work in grade 4 compared to grade 3, there will be some adjustments on everyone's part.

Today we did assessments in math, learned how to do Sudoku (4x4), had some project time (I gave minimum direction so I could see what they already know about organizing information),  wrote about why our family was special, had p.e. and finished the day at an assembly.

In the future I will add more detail to each event, however, the students are just getting used to the work and mine and Mrs. K's expectations so for now just a quick note.  As well I am just getting back into the habit of writing a daily blog.

How I like the work pages laid out

We practiced Sudoku
Good day everyone, see you all tomorrow.  Mr. W
