Apples to Apples Party

This morning we wrapped up a few things. Students did Handwriting for the last time and then put their folders into their backpacks. Then we played Math games, followed by an Apples to Apples Game Party with Ms. Koch and Mrs. S from recess until lunchtime.

Ms. Koch is a wonderful District Counsellor and Teacher (and former Social Worker). All of the students in our class worked with her in small groups on Tuesdays in Term 3 to encourage cooperation, respect, kindness, taking turns, and positive social skills. Today, the entire class played Apples to Apples in small groups in our classroom. Ms. Koch brought apple snacks for everyone (apples and apple muffins) - thank you Ms. Koch!! We finished the morning by sharing what they learned from working together with Ms. Koch.
We had a fun morning!

To Mr. Wilson and Div. 3,
Thank you for the book Happy by Mies Van Hout. That is really thoughtful :-) The illustrations are beautiful and so expressive!
Thank you for the gifts and cards. I really appreciate them, and the homemade gifts are wonderful.
Good luck in Grade 5 everyone!

Ocean Mural and Last Week!

Summer Reading Programs at the GVPL

I've kept the students busy with academics and our regular routines (with the exception of June end of the year events) to the bitter end :-) It keeps them calmer, focussed, and gives a sense of normalcy for students who benefit from structure.
In the last 2 weeks the class has worked with shapes, geometry, tangrams, and fractions in Math.

They are enjoying it and really focussed. We've used drawings and colour in each lesson, making fractions easier to understand and hopefully laying a good foundation for grade 5.

Students also completed AMAZING animal art paintings on black paper that went home today in each student's art folder. Please have a look through your child's art folder with them. There is a year's worth of creative, colourful, and artistic projects in there!
Each student should be incredibly proud of themselves for increasing their artistic ability this year. Some students started the year drawing stick men, and now have the confidence and ability to draw realistic drawings (as seen in their animal art this month!), and make their own artistic pieces.
The animal art also finished our Science unit on Animal Habitats.
For the past week, students have helped work on our class's Ocean Mural in the stairwell.
Everyone who wanted to contribute by painting has and we'll continue to work on the mural this week. Thank you to Mr. Wilson who drew the mural and will finish the work after my last day.

This afternoon was Fun Day, with stations of games outside and icecream in the classrooms at the end of the day. It was a fun afternoon.
Tomorrow is my last day teaching the class. I may stop in later in the week too.
This was my 5th year teaching, 8th if you count my years as a preschool teacher and ESL teacher overseas, yet I have probably learned as much from teaching this class as they have learned from Mr. Wilson and I this year. Thank you for teaching me so much.

We have had a lot of fun this year but there are 2 things that I hope students take with them:

You can do anything if you have a positive attitude and decide to give it your best shot. Also, Mr. Wilson and I believe in you.

Ok, one more: READ as much and as often as you can. It is the key to future success in school :-)

See you tomorrow,
Mrs. Schneider

Painting on the mural has begun

Mrs. Schneider, with groups of 3 - 4 students taking turns, has begun painting the mural.  It is going to be a great way to remember the fine art that Mrs. Schneider has done with the children and a great legacy for the students involved in the project.  Mrs. Schneider is basically letting all those students in the class, who wanted, have a turn painting.  Our goal is to get it completed this week.   See you all Monday.

The first crew worked at painting the first layer of the background water.

Great Job everyone.... can't wait until it is finished.
Mrs. Piggot, who is also leaving, wanted to paint one of the whales too.

Tillicum SuperHero League

Thanks to all those students who did not have former commitments and had time to join Mrs. Schneider and Myself at our Kiosk for "The Tillicum Super Hero League," at Mayfair Mall. Mrs.
Schneider and myself think your kids are super and they think you are super, so a Super hero league is just natural.  It was as great pleasure to see what great sports you are.  You involvement, care and support with your child in their education, is by far the most powerful force for their achievement in school.

My youngest daughter also had fun along with my oldest daughter, who took all the official pictures, and my two grandchildren dressing up as superheros

The last two weeks your children worked hard to make a super hero booklet for their dads, fathers, grandfathers or any important father figures.  The students tried hard to think of what your secret super hero persona might be.  They designed your costumes, imagined your powers, invented tools, weapons and vehicles, laid out a secret hideout, developed your catchphrase and noble code and even tried to imagine your arch enemy.  But most of all they imagined themselves as your sidekick.

The Plan:   Each student filled out an official form making it seem that their fathers had been entered into a real movie audition and won.  The letters advised the fathers to show up for a casting call for a reality t.v. series "Who wants to be a super hero."  Each student was given a winning entry, an audition number and directions to show up at 2:30 on Fathers day.

The 1st Tillicum Super Hero League meets for pictures, awards, virtues rocks, donuts, drinks and to meet each other at Mayfair Mall at 2:30.  Thank you everyone. You are all amazing and we are sorry that others could not make it because of other commitments due to the short notice, some of you only getting your package this morning.   Take care everyone, you are super, take care and see you tomorrow.
