Spiderwick, FSAs, and Playdoh

Reminder: Please return Skating Permission Forms. We also need 1 more parent volunteer to walk with us and help tie up skates on Tuesday, February 12.

Please return January Nights of Home Reading forms. If you need a new one for February, please ask Mr. W for one :-)

We have guest speakers (Camosun Nursing Students) coming to our class tomorrow to do hands-on activities about healthy food choices. Do you know how many teaspoons of sugar are in a can of pop?

This morning students practised multiplication using repeated addition, wrote their Spelling Pre-Test, then wrote the 60 min. written section of the FSA test. Their booklet had a picture of a door and asked the students to write a creative story about what was on the other side of it.

After this section, which some found long and a bit tedious, while others wrote for the entire time, I read aloud from Spiderwick Chronicles. I also introduced playdoh to the class. Each student picked their own mini container colour, with their name on the lid. It is their responsibility to keep the playdoh safe in their desks. They only get 1 tub!

Students will have set times when they can play with it, such as for 15 min when I read aloud or at other times when Mr. W or I decide to use it. Playdoh is a calming, creative, and fun activity, and the students were super excited, then immediately engrossed!
Playing with playdoh helps students expell excess energy, while engaging both sides of their brain. Afterwards, students are calm, alert, and ready to learn (or at least that is the goal!).

Cleaning desktops and side tables before Gym. Some were pretty manky!
After lunch was Library, 2 short Science experiements on how sound travels (dropping drops of water into a tub of water and watching the "sound" waves travel out from the source, bounce off the walls, and travel back towards the source again; and watching how the sound of a lion roaring made a piece of paper hanging over the speaker move. Very cool!), and Gym at the end of the day.

See you tomorrow!

Mrs. S
