Friday Test, group work, Chinese new year math, FSA and gym

Notices
Monday is a Stat Holiday (Family Day) no school
Next Friday is a Pro-D day no school

We began the day with our Friday test.  Those that finished early worked on their handwriting.  The test contined Socials and Math questions.  The math was the 5 x tables and subtraction drill.  The students were given 40 questions from medium to hard and they could pick any 20 to do.

After recess the stuents continued working on the written part of their buffalo projects and wrapped up the diorama if needed.  The students like group work and it leads to a lot of deep `conversation about the topic.  The diorama is the same as they have to visualize the written content and present it in graphic 3-d form.  Both myself and Mrs. Schneider believe the research that shows "Studies have shown that arts teaching and group learning can increase student's cognitive and social development. The arts can be a critical link for students in developing the crucial thinking skills and motivations they need to achieve at higher levels" (Deasy, & Stevenson, 2002).

After lunch the students worked on the last section of the FSA.  They answered three long word problem questions in Math.  They not only had to know the math, they had to create diagrams and charts to solve the problems.

In buddies they did Chinese New year math and activities.  This was followed up with gym with Mrs. Ramsay's grade 4 math class.
