The Spiderwick Chronicles: The Field Guide

The Field Guide is Book 1 of 5 in this fantasy, adventure series. Students might be familiar with the movie Spiderwick Chronicles that is based on this series.
In Book 1, twins Jared and Simon, and their sister Mallory move into a big, old, rundown house with their mom after their parents’ divorce. The house used to belong to their aunt but has been empty for awhile. At first the kids think there are animals living in the walls and attic but they soon discover something else. They find a secret room and a Field Guide book about elves, trolls, and other fantastical creatures. One day a message is left for them in the secret room and they go on many adventures to try and find out who wrote the message, what it means, and who the creatures in the Field Guide book are, without their mom finding out about the secret room, where they are going, or why strange things like flour split all over the kitchen floor keep happening.
I rate this fantasy, adventure book 5 stars out of 5.
We have Books 1 and 2 in our classroom, and I’m going to start reading Book 1 aloud to our class very soon!
