Friday Nov. 4th: Spelling, smarties, smartboards and buddies

Notice:
Lots of pictures were added to the photo gallery, mostly of the students working with buddies.

"I" and "D" dictate the spelling words to the class

We began the day with our weekly spelling test. However, instead of me dictating the words I let two of the better spellers, who got perfect on the pretest on Monday, dictate the two lists of spelling words.

The students reading big books with their little buddies.

After spelling I gave the students time to catch up on all the work they need to catch up on. Mrs. O and myself have given them a lot of work over the last two weeks and I figured many of the students could use a solid work day to add the final touches to work they have already begun or are behind on.

After recess we went to the computer lab and worked on a guessing, probability unit using the smarties that the students brought in. As one of the students said "math is fun... and tasty too." After trying to predict the number then the color of their box of smarties we talked about probability with coins and dice. We used the interactive smart board to simulate rolling dice and keep track of the coin tosses.

After lunch we had buddies where the students read big books with their little buddies. This was followed up with another half hour catchup work period followed by an active p.e. period with Mr. Edwards class.

Have a great weekend everyone. Next week we will focus on Remembrance day stories, images and concepts of peace and remembering those who have died in service to their countries.
