Multiplication, Beavers, and Adjectives

Reminder: Please return Nights of Home Reading Forms

Today some students needed extra practise on how to be respectful in the classroom and in line ups, causing the class to have a shorter library and gym time than we usually do.

This morning students wrote their Spelling Pre-Test, then did multiplication practise in Math. Students worked with their seat partner to answer 2 digit x 2 digit multiplication questions. I challenged the class with this: If every single student in the class completes their page (either in class or for homework) and hands it in by tomorrow morning, then the entire class will get a reward (either extra gym time or free time in the classroom). There are several reasons for this: Students need to learn their times tables and practise the 2 digit x 2 digit process, and many need to take responsibility for their homework, remember to take it home, and complete it on time. We will see if the class can meet this challenge!

After recess, in Science we finished our notes on the beaver's habitat, food, young, and other miscellaneous interesting facts for our class research project.
When the Reading group went to see Ms. Smith, the remaining students brainstormed adjectives with a partner and we combined the results into one list to help the students in their upcoming poetry writing assignments. The class list is impressive!
For the last 30 min before lunch, students worked on a Science title page (Animal Habitats) and their math homework.
After lunch was a Library book exchange, a poetry writing assigment (acrostic poem, minimum of 3 words per line, one of which is an adjective). We cleaned up the classroom and ended the day with free play at 3 stations in Gym that they rotated through (scooters and rubber rings, hoola hoops, and basketballs).

Students LOVED the unstructured play time, played safely and respectfully, and had so much fun.

Congratulations E. for having your weather picture published in the Times Colonist on the weekend.

See you tomorrow.

Mrs. Schneider
