Math, Problem solving, polar bear mini books and Gym

We started with Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where Calvin is trying to avoid eating his supper.  Very funny and we talked about the different ways that the students try and avoid eating.  After that we did  Math until recess.  Solving word problems.  After recess the students were given a fact book on Polar Bears and after going through it for facts, Plot, and setting ideas they worked in pairs to plan and write a story about Polar bears that uses the information in a Mini Book story.  They were so well focused and on task that I let the writing continue up until lunch time.

After lunch we had computers where the students learned how to create dialog boxes to go with three pictures they got from the internet.  One student had a dragon talking to a bear and a human.  Very creative and very useful for future writing projects.

After Computers the students went to Music where they practiced reading music and playing the recorder.  We returned to the computer lab after music for 15 minutes to finish up the assignment, before heading off to the gym.

We played a game of bench ball with Mrs. Carlton's class.  Great day everyone and tomorrow's test will have spelling, questions on compare and contrast an igloo and a tipi.  You have to fill out a venn diagram comparing a tipi to an igloo.  They have to list three things that are the same, three things they individually have different. (three ways the tipi is different from the igloo, and three ways the igloo is different from the tipi).

There will be some basic math addition to keep your brain sharp.  Take care and see you all tomorrow.
