Spelling, Survival, and a Disneyland presentation

This morning students wrote their Spelling Pre-Test, followed by a class math game with easy to very complicated addition questions (with 2 teams, for team points). Students are learning addition strategies to help them tackle questions with many numbers and digits, and to improve their mental math skills.

Character web for our novel study
After recess students made a web of the 6 main characters in Survival and added characteristics for each person while I read a chapter aloud to them.

T reading a Q & A about Weather
In Science we finished our weather unit by returning to the questions students generated about weather in September. Students chose 2 questions, worked with a partner to write down the answers, and then shared them with the class. We were able to answer all of the students' previous questions (such as "What is hail?" and "Why does lightning strike?"). It was neat to see how much the students have learned. Right before lunch students had 20 minutes to catch up on work (math, M.E.) that is due. Only a few students had everything finished and they silent read or drew.

One student just returned from Disneyland and shared parts of his journal with us. We learned about his adventures, and also saw pictures and other things he collected on his trip. Students asked questions afterwards.
