Calvin's Art assignment |
We began the day with our weekly test. We took a break in the middle of the test to see a live demonstration from the BC Dairy Association. The team brought a live cow and a calf to the school for the students to see. I was astonished to see how many of the students in our school had never seen a real living cow. They fed the cow, they milked the cow, they took the milk and put it in a bottle to feed the calf but most of all the taught us a lot about cows and milk. We learned about basic cow biology, the importance of milk in a healthy, balanced diet, how the dairy process works. We came back to the class and had a late recess while the cow people cleaned up and moved the cow station away.
After recess the students were given time to work on polishing their work in their Language Arts, Socials, Fabels and Science, as they will be collected on Tuesday so that their report card marks can be tabulated. I actually wanted them today, but the students used their money to buy an extension. Work hard on the weekend to make sure your books are complete. Each page should have their name in the corner, a border, be colored, have a drawing and contain inform that has a beginning statement and an ending statement.
Our friday test |
After lunch we had 15 minutes of reading before buddies. In buddies the students did Cow science. After buddies I linked to the math, Mrs. Schneider has been doing, in graphing. To the graphing we added prediction. Graphing is a great way to have conversations about math concepts like, fractions, percents, greater and less than. Doing a weekly graphing and having the conversations is a strong way to create strong math students. We took the smarties boxes we got from Halloween and graphed the results of the number and color of the smarties. Fun and tasty math. Have a safe long weekend everyone and do your two minutes of silence on the 11th... take care mr w
