Making a tornado in a bottle. |
From recess until lunchtime, groups of 3-4 students rotated through stations with hands-on activities about the weather. Stations included: Hottest Places on Earth, Hottest and Coldest Temperatures in Victoria, 10 Survival Items Needed in a Desert, the School-Based Weather Station in our classroom, Measuring Temperatures with a Thermometer, making a Tornado in a Bottle, and Making a Rain Gauge and practicing how to use it with water from a sponge. This was the quietest and most engaged I’ve ever seen this class for an extended period of time. Well done class! Students will finish writing their observations and answering questions tomorrow.

Warm and Cool Faces - Picasso Style |
After lunch was a book exchange in the Library, starting a Picasso-inspired art project (which look FANTASTIC already and we will finish them next week!), and Gym. Poison Ball has become a favourite game, and after students were looking quite tired and rosy-cheeked, we finished with 4 Corners.

Does anyone subscribe to the paper version of the Times Colonist? Many people read news online but I’m asking because our class is submitting weather pictures for the weather section, in hopes of their pictures being published. The picture are printed in colour with the student’s first name, age, and school he/she attends. If anyone subscribes and would be willing to check the paper each day for their classmates' pictures, could you let me know? Thank you!
Mrs. S
