Cedar, Debates, Computers, Music and P.E.

Tomorrow is our PISE sports field Trip
BRING PROPER SHOES PLEASE

We began the day with a review of how to enter the school and lining up etc... you know the Blah Blah Blah that only the students who pay attention understand and listen to... but Hey... the Blah Blah Blah at least entertains me.

After that we talked again about the importance of the Cedar to the West Coast First Nations and looked at how the sacred tree provided about 90 percent of the basic needs of the Coastal First nations.  It was a source of tools, protection, heat, transportation, shelter, all household items, ceremonial things like masks and drums and many other items.  In fact, in a couple of pictures of villages and inside long houses we only found 5 or 6 things, out of hundreds, that were not somehow connected to the Cedar tree. (We talked about how the Seal and the Buffalo filled the same things for the Inuit and Plains peoples)

After recess we worked on finishing a writing assignment from yesterday and then broke into groups to have a debate.  There were 4 teams with 4 on each team.  The two debate topics were 'Should we  have gotten rid of the penny' and 'Is it better today or in the past.'  We have not had a debate in a long time so the students were rusty, however, students who usually do not shine are very happy to stand in front to the class and argue and debate.

After lunch we went to the computer lab to work with Microsoft Word to make a poster before heading off to Music.  After music we went to P.E. with Mrs. Carlton's class.

See you all tomorrow.  And please remember to bring proper foot wear for a sports day.
