For those students who entered the TD Canadian Children's Writing Contest in January, the winning entries are posted on the TD's Book Week website: http://www.bookweek.ca/contest_winners2013
We read some of the winning entries in class last week and it might be interesting for you to read the grade 4 and 5 stories and poems that won. Some students illustrated their stories too.
Congratulations to everyone who entered stories and poems. The work you entered is creative, humorous, and well-written, and most of you worked on them on your own time, at home. Unfortunately, no one's entries from our class was chosen but I hope the process was a positive experience and perhaps you can try again next year. Even if your teacher does not talk about a writing contest next year, you can ask your parent to help you enter in 2014, if you are interested. The contest deadline for the TD Canadian Children's Writing Contest is always in February and the winners are announced in May.
Another Contest:
6th Annual Junior Author's Short Story Writing Contest for ages 9+
Deadline is June 30, 2013.
Winners are announced on September 20, 2013 and are invited to a writing conference in Vancouver in October.
For more information: http://laurathomascommunications.com/juniorauthorscontest/
Please read the rules carefully if you want to submit any of your fabulous short stories that you wrote at school or one that you wrote at home.
Good luck!
Also: B. you had another weather picture published in the Times Colonist today. I will bring a copy for you this week. Congratulations!
Mrs. Schneider
