Writing their own Book.
Three
or four classes in our school are taking part in a write your own book
project through a community program called Story Time or something like
that. They guide the students through activities to help them visualize
and create interesting writing.
An example of what happened during the presentation is as follows:
The students were asked to close their eyes and visualize their character somewhere their character might be. The students were guided through a visualization to smell, taste, see, feel and touch. The time of day, the season, also had an effect on what the students sensed. If
the students said it was loud, one of the authors would guide the
students with questions like why was it loud, was it people noise, city
noises or animal noises.
After character and setting they began the introduction. They talked about a strong Introduction. An introduction interesting, exciting…
They suggested the students start by introducing their character. Or something about their setting. They then had the students begin their story with a question. Have you ever been trapped in a bakery. Hook your reader
1 character (Billy thought he was the toughest student in the school. All the scared kids in the school did too. All, that is, except one.
2 setting (Billy woke up surrounded by books. Not friendly books full of cute pictures, but large dusty books written in an strange ancient language. But
what was the strangest thing of all, was that Billy had never owned or
even read a book from cover to cover in his whole life.
3 question. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your own elephant.
The students were given clay to mold their character to help them write a more detailed description.
The students then wrote their first couple of sentences.
All the students were successful in getting ideas to paper, even if one of the authors had to scribe it for them. Great Job everyone

SUPER
AWESOME MARINE TEAM 2013- S.A.M.T.2013
We had a fantastic afternoon meeting and learning about the
new creatures in our seaquarium. If you are unsure of what a seaquarium is ask
your child! Or see the following http://www.worldfish.org/images-pdfs/Projects/Seaquaria/program/Seaquaria%20poster%20-%20April%2018%20-%20letter%20size.pdf
We had 4 stations set up around the classroom with creatures
us to look at, learn about and even touch (pinky fingers only). After each
child had the chance to investigate the creatures we all marched upstairs and
Div 3 had the amazing opportunity to put the creatures into their new homes. We
will be spending a lot of time using our powers of inquiry, research and
observation to gain a stronger understanding of the world in the Coast Salish
Sea! A big thank you to Mary and Jasmine for coming in to teach us their stuff!
We will see them again soon!!
